See How it is Easier for hackers to Crack WiFi Password If You Don't Protect It With These Tips

crack wifi password and protect yourself against attack

If you have Wi-Fi network, you should know weather it is secured against hackers or not, through this easy hacking method to test cracking your wireless network. Also I will help you on this topic with the best tips & tricks to protect your wireless from hackers' attack.
Note: This topic has associated video to show you both of cracking and protection methods step by step.

ATTENTION:
BEFORE WE START,
  • YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE METHOD ON THIS TOPIC IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PORPUSE IN A WAY TO HELP YOU KNOW HOW IS IT EASIER FOR HACKERS TO HACK YOUR WIFI NETWORK IF YOU DID NOT PROTECT IT WITH STRONG ENCRYPTION.
  • PLEASE DON'T USE THIS METHOD TO HACK NETWORK OF OTHER.

FIRST:

How to know if YOUR WiFi network is secured against hacking or not:

1- Open Kali Linux or backtrack OS (either as virtual machine inside windows or as independent operating system) and connect Alfa Wi-Fi card to it

2- Open New terminal to use Command line and type

ifconfig then press enter to see the name and number that your Wi-Fi card will takes (it will be like this: wlan0, wlan5, wlan20,..etc.).

show connected network cards on kali linux or backtrack

3- Open New terminal and type airmon-ng start wlanX then press enter to start network monitoring on your WiFi card
(Replace X by number of your card ( in my case it takes 13 based on info from step number 2, so I used command like this: airmon-ng start wlan13)
Open New terminal and type airmon-ng start wlanX then press enter
4- Open New terminal and type wifite then press enter to see available WiFi networks.
(Also You can start this command directly without previous command on step number 3)

Open New terminal and type wifite then press enter

You may need to install the wifite tool if you not see scanning process inside terminal or command line, or if you just see error message (Search google to learn how to download and install wifite tool into kali Linux or backtrack OSs).
Notice that the wifite tool will show you the name of all networks even if their SSID or network name is hidden (initially, the wifite tool will show only MAC address of  hidden network in place of name until it capture the network name.
5- When you see the target network that you intended to hack, hover the mouse cursor inside the command terminal of wifite tool and press Ctrl+C to pause the scanning process and to select the targeted network by typing its number inside wifite's command terminal and press enter.

You can use wifite tool to try to test hacking YOUR network by doing the previous step (i.e step number 5),
especially if the password of the targeted network is with WEB encryption, but there is another tool called reaver stronger than wifite in hacking WPA or WPA2 with WPS enabled.

6- Stop wifite tool by pressing Ctrl+Z while the mouse cursor inside the command terminal of wifite.
7- Open new terminal and type the following command then
press enter:
reaver -i mon0 -b 00:00:00:00:00:00 -v -a -s -c 10 -l 2 -e AppTechEra

- Replace 00:00:00:00:00:00 by MAC address of your targeted network
- Replace 10 by channel number of targeted network
- Also you can replace AppTechEra by the name of your targeted network only if its name was hidden, BUT if the ESSID or network name is shown to everyone, you have a choice to use -e argument or to delete the -e & name

- Required Arguments on Reaver tool:
  • -i  = interface (wifi card) it always takes mon0*
  • -b = MAC of targeted network,
  • -v = Verbose  (Display non-critical warnings)
  • -s = Save the current season to a file or restore advanced hacking point from stored file of previously stopped season if present.

- Optional Arguments on Reaver tool:
  • -c = channel number for targeted network
  • -e = network name ( important only if you try to hack hidden network
  • -a = Auto detect the best advanced options for the target AP
  • -l = lock-delay=<seconds> Set the time to wait if the AP locks WPS pin attempts [2-60]
for more information about reaver arguments and their usage type reaver -h into new terminal and hit enter.

*(If you have more than one WiFi card connected to kali or backtrack in the same time, or if you tried to start network monitoring (as on step no. 3) on connected WiFi card several times, you will have another string for your wifi card rather than mon0).
Solution for wrong interface string:
  1. Try to know the string associated with your wifi card from command in step number 3 or in step number 6
  2. Unplug cable of Wi-Fi card from USB port and reconnect it ( if you installed kali Linux or backtrack as host or independent operating system.
  3. Disconnect wifi card from  kali or backtrack through options of connected devices on  kali or backtrack then unplug cable of Wi-Fi card from USB port and reconnect it (if you are using kali or backtrack as guest on virtual machine).

Notice that the cracking may take several hours or even day or more, based on strength of WiFi signal and location of pin number ( i.e. if the network has as e.g. a 00111111,it will takes only minutes to find it, but if the pin was e.g. 99999999, it may takes more than 20 hours to find it based on signal strength).
SECOND:
How to protect yourself from this attack:
 Use the following
- Hide network name
- Disable WPS from modem setting
- Use WPA2 encryption
- Use strong password (i.e should include):
- Numbers (e.g. 1234567)
- Small Letters (e.g. abcdefg)
- CAPITAL letters (e.g. ABCDEFG)
- Symbols: (e.g. &@#*$~% )
- Exclude your name or mobile numbers
1- From any browser, type http://192.168.1.1/ then press enter
2- Login to modem router using modem's username and
password (Default= admin/admin)
3- Go to Wireless Setup panel and disable those options:
  • Use WPS
  • Broadcasting SSID (i.e the network name)
If you have TP=LINK modem, Go to: Interface Setup> Wireless Setup
4-Also navigate to maintenance and change the modem's
password from default (admin) to new one.
